Gap App Fractions: NYC is an app designed to help kids demonstrate the math skills needed to add, subtract, multiply, divide, and compare fractions. This app starts out with adding positive numbers, and builds up to multiplication, division, addition and subtraction of fractions. The final module covers how to compare two fractions.

Topics covered include:

-adding whole numbers
-subtracting one whole number from another
-multiplying whole numbers (basic times table)
-factoring whole numbers
-reducing fractions
-finding the GCD of two whole numbers
-finding the LCM of two whole numbers
-multiplying fractions
-dividing fractions
-adding fractions
-subtracting fractions
-comparing fractions

There are two modes for this app: the "Gap Check" mode and "Free Play" mode. A module must be completed in Gap Check mode before being accessible in Free Play mode. To unlock a module, the user must correctly answer 5 questions in a row. If the user answers a question incorrectly, the status level is reset to 0 and the user starts the module over. Once a module is unlocked, the user can practice those types of problems in Free Play.

This app generates practice problems for the user to solve. Solving 5 problems in a row in a module "unlocks" the module for further practice (in freeplay mode). Working through the Gap Check mode provides a reference level for accuracy and time. As the user unlocks levels and practices solving the problems in Free Play mode, improvement against this reference level can be monitored.

This app includes the ability to draw on the screen to work out problems. This app makes use of the Game Center. Achievements for speed and accuracy can be unlocked, the Leaderboard can be used to compare scores, and users can challenge others to beat their times or unlock achievements.

This app has been designed to align with the Common Core State Standards Initiative.
